Understanding Your Results

Turning a score into a study plan

A Score Is Not a Study Plan

Most practice tests hand you a number and leave you to figure out the rest. Knowing you got a 68 tells you that you failed. It does not tell you what to study tonight.

Worse, two people can score the same 68 for completely opposite reasons. One of them does not know brake hydraulics. The other knows it fine and misread four EXCEPT questions in a row. Those are different problems with different fixes, and a percentage cannot tell them apart.

The results page on the premium tests is built to answer the question a score leaves open: what do I actually do now.

What You Get Back

Score by ASE Content Area

Your results are broken out by the same content areas ASE publishes for that subject. A low score under Lubrication and Cooling Systems points you at a system, not at a vague sense that engines are a weak spot. The weakest areas are called out directly so you know where to start rather than rereading a whole chapter hoping something sticks.

Score by Question Type

This is the one most people have never seen, and it is often the most useful thing on the page.

Your misses are sorted by format: Technician A/B, data-driven, MOST likely, LEAST likely and EXCEPT, component function, procedure and tool, scenario-based. If your misses cluster under one content area, you have a knowledge gap and you need to study that system. If they cluster under one format — say you got four of the four EXCEPT questions wrong across three different systems — you do not have a knowledge gap at all. You have a reading habit that is costing you points, and no amount of rereading the service manual will fix it.

Separating those two is the difference between studying hard and studying the right thing.

The Official ASE Task Number

Every question you miss comes back with the task number it was written from, straight off the ASE task list for that subject.

That number is a direct index into the official study guide. Instead of "go review cooling systems," you get the specific task, and you can look it up and study exactly that. It turns a wrong answer into an assignment.

Drill My Misses

Re-run only the questions you got wrong, on a shorter clock. No wading back through the twenty you already know to get at the five you do not.

It is the single fastest way to turn a weak test into a strong one, and it is also an honest check on whether you actually learned the explanation or just recognized the answer the second time around.

Pace Flags

The real exam is timed, and time pressure changes how people answer. The results page flags two patterns worth knowing about yourself.

Right but slow means you knew it and burned time proving it to yourself. A handful of those is fine. A page full of them means you will run out of clock on the real exam even though you know the material.

Fast but wrong is the more expensive one. It usually means you recognized a few familiar words in the stem and answered the question you expected rather than the one in front of you. That is a habit, and seeing it listed out is usually enough to break it.

Click Any Miss to Review It

From the results page, any question opens straight into a full review: the question as it was asked, the answer you chose, the correct answer, and the explanation of why the evidence points where it does — including, where it applies, why a close second answer is genuinely arguable and still loses.

Free Tests vs Premium Tests

Tests 1 and 2 in every subject are free, with no account and no email. They are complete 25-question tests with a score, a full review of every question, and a written explanation on each one. They are not samples that stop halfway.

Tests 3 and 4 are the premium ones. Harder scenarios, a real 30-minute timer, and everything on this page: content-area scoring, question-type scoring, official task numbers, drill mode and pace flags. One subject unlocks for a few dollars; all nine cost less than a single ASE study guide from a major publisher.

If both free tests in a subject are landing comfortably above 70 percent, the premium tests are the right next step. If they are not, work the free explanations and the test-taking tips first — the premium analytics are far more useful once the basics are solid.
